For over 60 years Steve has had an affinity for photography and the sea. He received his first camera at age 13.
He ran a successful commercial/industrial photography business for 38 years in the Wilshire corridor of Los Angeles, coupled with a custom photofinishing operation—all catering to the very the demanding LA advertising agencies along Wilshire.
In 1999 Steve and his wife departed on an extended cruise to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean aboard their 40 ft sailboat Viva. At the same time Steve upgraded and adapted to digital photography. The next eight years were spent exploring and photographing the islands of the Caribbean and Central America.
Returning to the LA area in 2008, Steve has regenerated his photography business coupled with an interest in the photographic art market. In addition Steve, in collaboration with a long-time graphic designer and associate is now photographing/producing websites.
Steve has continued to explore newer media for preserving his images by infusing dyes directly into the surface of specially coated aluminum sheets. These high gloss images with the embedded archival inks take on an almost magical luminescence with the added benefit of a waterproof, ultra-hard scratch resistant coating. His prints are available in a variety of sizes which will last for generations when displayed out of direct sunlight. Also available are the more traditional Giclée prints on either fine art watercolor papers or canvas.
Feel free to consult with Steve for ideas on wall décor for your office, home, restaurant or hotel. He is also accepting commercial photography assignments and may be contacted at: 310-951-7763 or jostphoto@gmail.com

Portraits
I have always photographed people. Corporate executives. Street vendors. Commercial fishermen. Friends. You name it! I love the idea of capturing a life at a specific moment in time... of capturing the essence or nature of who that person is. There's nothing else like it!
Cities & Architecture
The many years when traveling through out the Caribbean I would always stop and photograph an interesting build or some bit of architectural detail. It always fascinates. Now when photographing buildings of Southern California I always seek just the right angle to showcase the structure's beauty and yes, building do communicate.
Boats
If you spend any time at all on this website it becomes quickly apparent that I have had a life-long love affair with boats—sail, power, racing, large boats, elegant yachts, megayachts, fishing trawlers—you name it: boats!
Product &Table Top
When shooting the craziness that is serious yacht racing I sometimes yearn for the quiet and analytical world that is table-top and studio photography. It has entirely different challenges: managing multiple light sources, adding in reflections, eliminating reflections, casting shadows and then the exact opposite. The challenges are real... and really, really different from location photography.
I'm taking on projects!
I am always looking for new, interesting projects. Real challenges are things I absolutely thrive upon!
